
CANADIAN CROSSROADS INTERNATIONAL (CCI) BARTICA LOCAL
COMMITTEE
Canadian Crossroads International (CCI) was introduced to Guyana
in the 1970's operating in Linden, Essequibo Coast and Georgetown for over twenty years.It's
expansion to Bartica came in 1995 when the National Committee was seeking possible
September 1996 to Canada recruits. One person responded, Ms Rita Brouet, thereby being the
first Bartician to have the Crossroads experience in Canada in September to December 1996.
In January 1997, Rita was challenged to start a group, in Bartica. In
October 1997 a local committee was established after arrival of the first batch of overseas
Crossroaders to Bartica in September1997.
Since that time CCI Bartica has become one of the most dynamic Non Government
organization (NGO) in Bartica. It has attracted over twenty five volunteers,and is
instrumental in motivating other organizations in to action.
Hosting
CCI Bartica has hosted fourteen overseas Crossroaders from
September 1997 to April 1999. Six (6) in September 1997 to December 1997, two (2) in
December 1997 to April 1998, four (4) in May 1998 to August 1998, and two (2) in December
1998 to April 1999.

Work Placements
- Research on Bartica and Occupational Preferences of the Fourth and
Fifth formers at Bartica Secondary School.
- Presentation on research techniques, teaching of drama, reading
and Arts and Craft.
- Working at the Regional Craft centre.
- Placement at Lands and Survey Department.
Some of the Achievements/Project Completed September 1997 to
April 1999
- Hosts a weekly television program since October 14, 1997 to date.
- Create interest in Barticians to become involved in Canadian
Crossroads International.
- Production of a pamphlet on"Sexual Assault".
- Conducted two counsellors training program June to August 1998 and
January to March 1999.
Forty four person were trained.
- Conducted a one week Youth Leaders Training Camp at Bartica in
August 1998.
One participant was chosen to represent Guyana at the Caribbean Youth Leaders Summit in
Barbados.
- Acquisition of computer for the Education Department Region 7 -
April 1998.
- Production of a web site on Bartica.
